12/16/24 – Mental Health Monday: Preparing for a Healthy and Happy Holiday Break
As the winter holiday season approaches, we at Woodsville High School want to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of self-care and mental wellness. With an early release this Friday, December 20th, students and staff will begin a much-deserved break, returning to school on January 2nd. While the holidays are often filled with joy and celebration, they can also bring challenges like stress, exhaustion, or feelings of loneliness.
Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself over the break:
1. Rest and Recharge
The holiday season is the perfect time to catch up on rest and relaxation. Take the opportunity to sleep in, enjoy a quiet moment with a book or movie, and allow yourself time to unwind.
2. Stay Connected
Spending time with friends and family can lift your spirits. Whether it’s a family dinner, a movie night with friends, or simply catching up with someone over a phone call, connection matters.
3. Set Boundaries
Holidays can be busy and sometimes overwhelming. It’s okay to say no to activities that feel like too much or to step away for a moment to decompress. Remember, your well-being comes first.
4. Find Joy in Small Things
Whether it’s decorating cookies, watching a favorite holiday movie, or going for a walk in the snow, small moments of joy can make a big difference in your mental health.
5. Reach Out if You Need Support
If you’re feeling anxious, lonely, or down over the holidays, it’s okay to reach out for help. Talk to a trusted adult, friend, or family member, or consider connecting with a counselor or support hotline.
As we close out 2024, let’s commit to prioritizing self-care and kindness, both to ourselves and to those around us. We look forward to seeing everyone back on January 2nd, refreshed and ready for the new year.
Happy holidays from all of us at Woodsville High School! 💚
